It’s not as if we aren’t already spoilt for choice when it comes to portable hard drives but this particular portable HDD , known as the iDrive Portable, manages to distinguish itself from the masses not only due to the fact that it’s the slimmest and lightest portable USB hard drive in its class but because not only will it offer you ability to make one-click local backups of important files and documents but it also offers you the ability to backup your backup online for that little extra piece of mind.

Measuring in at just 10mm in thickness and 120 x 74mm (length and width respectively) whilst weighing in at just 0.3lb, the iDrive Portable hard disk sports a 5400rpm 2.5″ 320GB hard drive offering average read seek times of 12ms and data transfer rates up to 480MB/s and is both Windows and Mac compatible
The iDrive Portable hard disk is due to commence shipping any day now and will set you back just shy of $120 whilst, if you’re interested in the online backup facility you’ll also have to factor in a $4.95 monthly subscription charge should you require any more than 2GB of storage space (online storage up to the aforementioned 2GB limit is free)

I am not sure why an online storage provider would also peddle a hardware storage device. Once I store my files online on a site like Box.net or MyOtherDrive.com, I don’t have to worry about loss, theft, or hardware damage.
