Having already previously confirmed that the Helio Ocean 2 is to soon be made available to its customers back in January, Virgin Mobile USA have now added a little flesh to the bones of the initial announcement – which seemed rather more concerned with the fact that a certain Britney Spears (who?) is to be roped in to launch the Helio Ocean 2 – with detail concerning the phone’s features as well as the handset’s pricing.

Billed as a ‘3G Social Networking Powerhouse’ offers access to Facebook, MySpace (et al) with ‘1 click through connect’ whilst also offering users the ability to text, IM and mail via the likes of Gmail, Yahoo!, MSN and Hotmail (Mail for Microsoft Exchange) – and, though it’s not as if you cannot access these range of features on a vast range of handsets it’s the degree of integration and ease of access that makes the Helio Ocean 2 the ‘3G Social Networking Powerhouse’ it purports to be.
Of course, it almost goes without saying (considering the obvious intended market) that the Helio Ocean 2 also comes with integrated MP3 player and will happily play ball with YouTube whilst the phone’s GPS paired with Google Maps functionality is also on offer.
The Helio Ocean 2, which sports a 2.6″ 240 x 320 TFT display, a 2MP camera, stereo Bluetooth and comes with a (not especially generous) 512MB microSD card bundled in will be offered, in red only initially, from February 12 by Virgin Mobile USA for just shy of $150 with a black Helio Ocean 2 being made available to those with a particular distaste for red cell phones later in the year.

[...] a more than passing similarity to the previously featured Helio Ocean 2 smartphone (also developed by Pantech), the Pantech Matrix Pro, which serves to supersede the original Matrix, [...]
it’s inexpensive, and it’s pretty cool device for messaging friends.
