Hitachi Wooo H001 Cell Phone Sports 3D Stereoscopic Display

Following on from news concerning the latest plethora of KDDI associated cell phone press releases regarding KDDI’s new Spring ’09 line-up – specifically the previously featured Sony Cybershot S001 and Casio CA001 camera phones – KDDI have announced that it’ll also carry the new Hitachi Wooo H001 cell phone, most notably, which sports a 3D stereoscopic capable display.
The Hitachi Wooo H001 comes with a 3.1″ 3D IPS TFT LCD display offering 854 x 480 resolution and, interestingly, not only can it display imagery and video created in 3D formats but it can also convert 2D images – taken with the Wooo H001′s own autofocus 5 megapixel camera, for example – to 3D IPS format as well.

Apart from touting a 3D capable display, the Hitachi Wooo H001 cell phone, which measures in at 111 x 51 x 18.6mm, naturally comes with integrated 1Seg TV tuner, an integrated dictionary (seemingly a prerequisite of any handset in Japan), and OCR functions – the latter indicating some sort of touchscreen functionality though we can find no evidence that the Wooo H001′s display is indeed touchscreen as well as offering 3D capabilities (we suggest it’s not, which makes the touted ‘OCR functions’ especially intriguing).
And, whilst we are yet to locate a full spec sheet concerning the Hitachi Wooo H001 (we’re working from a translation of the Japanese site as linked below) we can confirm that the cell phone offers Bluetooth connectivity and supports IRSimple as well as, we believe, e-Wallet functionality.

We’ll keep our eyes peeled concerning full specifications, of course, but, in the meantime we can confirm that the not undesirable Hitachi Wooo H001 cell phone is set for release in Japan via KDDI some time in early February.
