Having initially pronounced that their Aspire One netbook would be a Windows XP only netbook, it seems that Acer has had somewhat of a rethink having now confirmed that not only will a version of the 10″ Aspire One be offered with Linux under the hood but that an SSD as well as HDD options are also on the cards.
According to ZDNet, an unnamed Acer spokesperson confirmed on Wednesday that their Aspire One netbook will now be offered in XP and Linux – specifically Linux Linpus – variants and that, as well as the known HDD versions an SSD packing Aspire One, coming, specifically, with a 16GB SSD, will also be offered. Interestingly it seems, from initial reports, that no other capacities in terms of SSDs will be offered (i.e., there’s no mention of an 8GB capacity SSD).

In another development from the 8.9″ Acer Aspire One, it also transpires that the new 10″ Aspire One will forgo the second SD card slot found on the 8.9″ version on account of the new, increased integrated storage capacities on offer in the newer netbooks.
In terms of pricing, however, Acer remain tight-lipped concerning both the XP and Linux variants of the 10″ Aspire One and, at the time of writing, the only shipping date offered concerns just the Windows XP variant which is purported to ship sometime in mid-February.
