Having just covered the newly announced Sony Ericsson CyberShot S001 camera phone we felt obliged to offer a heads-up concerning another camera phone (i.e., a phone that will happily and reasonably serve as a combined cell phone and compact camera substitute) in the form of the Casio CA001 which comes with a 5 megapixel 9-point autofocus camera (not quite up to par with the CyberShot S001′s 8.1MP) paired with dual screens – the outer of which, apart from being particularly generously proportioned, also offers touchscreen functionality.

Measuring in at 50 x 109 x 17.8mm, the Casio CA001′s aforementioned outer, main 3.1″ LCD touchscreen display boasts 480 x 854 resolution which is supplemented by a (non-touchscreen) inner display whilst the 5MP camera offers up to x18 digital zoom as well as QVGA and VGA (the latter at 30fps) video recording capabilities. Additionally, apart from all the usual specifications you’d expect from such a phone (Bluetooth connectivity, DAP capabilities, microSD card slot, etc – as well as Global Passport) the Casio CA001 offers a few extra functions of particular note.

Especially interesting is the Casio CA001′s inbuilt dictionaries and encyclopaedias (no less than ten of them to be exact) as well as its ‘Smart Sports and Run’ support offering pacemaker and virtual trainer functionalise (inclusive of verbal feedback) and automatic calories counter which utilises the Casio CA001′s integrated motion sensor to offer feedback during, say, workouts or perhaps just walks to the office.

With a host of other features on offer (e-Wallet support being one of them) there’s no doubt that the Casio CA001 is a particularly capable camera phone that’s sure to be especially appealing to travellers (thanks to the multi-lingual dictionaries) as well as fitness freaks (auto calorie burner calculator/virtual fitness trainer).

Due to be released in Japan on February 6th there’s no official word concerning pricing at this juncture.
