Apple Mac Netbook Rumours Seemingly Unfounded

Apple Netbook Not Due Anytime Soon

For many, including us, it seems wholly logical that Apple should want to get in on the action in terms of the increasingly lucrative netbook market – after all it’s currently the fastest growing sector in the PC market – but it seems that Apple feel that there’s just not enough of a profit margin for them to take on the likes of Asus, HP, MSI and Dell (to name but a few) with the previously rumoured Apple Mac Netbook.

Whilst many had hoped that an Apple Mac Netbook may have been unveiled at this years Macworld show those hoping (and indeed predicting) that an Apple branded netbook would surface were disappointed and, apparently, according to a Wired interview with Tim Cook, Apple’s chief operating officer, an Apple netbook isn’t even on the cards, with Cook emphasising that he feels that netbooks are ‘principally based on hardware,’ whilst he believes that ‘software is the key ingredient.’

Additionally, even Apple’s CEO, Steve Jobs, is on record as stating that Apple were unable to produce an Apple netbook that would retain in the standard netbook price range bracket that wasn’t a ‘piece of junk’.

Personally I remain sceptical as to whether we should wholly rule out an Apple netbook though any such device will patently not be aimed specifically at taking on the netbook market as we presently know it – simply because it seems unimaginable for Apple to go on ignoring such a large (and growing) market sector. A diminutive Apple notebook that, perhaps, serves as a bridge between notebooks and netbooks is, we think, still something that Apple may be considering but just don’t expect Apple to confirm or deny it anytime soon.
