M&A have announced their new, 3rd generation Intel Classmate standard tablet PC, the M&A Companion Touch Tablet PC, which is aimed specifically at young students – the age range give is between 5 – 14 years – who are looking for what’s termed ‘n ideal mobile personal learning device’.

The M&A Companion Touch Tablet PC, which come with an 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 under the hood, sports an 8.9” TFT convertible 1024 x 600 resolution touchscreen – thus offering tablet configuration – as well as 1GB of DDR2 RAM, integrated 2-channel audio, 80 key keyboard complete with touchpad, a 1.3 megapixel swivel webcam, 60GB HDD and, in terms of connectivity, both 802.11 b/g/n wireless LAN and Ethernet LAN are covered. Additionally, there’s a 2-in-1 card reader and 2 x USB 2.0 ports.

The M&A Companion Touch Tablet PC weighs in at a mere 2.8lbs which, considering its target audience is just as well, and, interestingly, is billed as supporting ‘theft-deterrent solutions’ though the solutions in question are not actually detailed (certainly we don’t appear to be looking at little Johnny’s ‘My First Computer with Biometric Security’ here but, rather, something wholly more mundane).

The M&A Companion Touch Tablet PC carries a list price of just short of $500 which, all said and done, puts it in the same league as many lower-spec netbooks.
