OCZ, a company we’re featuring rather a lot of late, have taken the wraps off a new range of ‘cost-efficient’ 2.5” Solid State Drives known as the OCZ Apex SSD Series which are billed as being ‘he affordable midrange offering for enthusiasts, system builders, and mainstream computer users demanding the latest technology in this fast-developing sector of the storage market’.
The new OCZ Apex Series SATAII 2.5” Solid State Drives are set to become available in 60GB, 120GB and 250GB capacities and offer read speeds up to 230MB/s and write speeds of up to 160MB/s and purportedly offer a MTBF of around 1.5 million hours and shock resistance of 1500G.
The Apex Series of SSDs come with ‘new internal RAID0 architecture’ and will come with a 2 year warranty (handy, as the failure rate on SSDs in general remains considerably higher than that of traditional hard disk drives).
No news as yet concerning date of release or unit pricing but it’s undoubtedly in OCZ’s interests to price its new Apex range of Solid State Drives particularly competitively so as to increase the market share of those opting to go the SSD route.
