Canon PowerShot A480 Entry Level Compact Camera

If you’re looking for a basic yet competent compact camera and you’re on a budget then Canon’s new 10 megapixel PowerShot A480, which is replacing Canon’s PowerShot A470, may be worth consideration as for an entry-level compact it may not boast all the bells and whistles of more expensive devices (naturally) but you do get a more than competent device that isn’t quite as stripped of features as you may initially suspect.
The Canon PowerShot A480 compact digital camera, apart from offering 10 megapixel resolution and 3.3x optical zoom, is based on Canon’s widely respected DIGIC III processor and comes with a 2.5” LCD display, video capture capabilities – VGA resolution captured at 30fps in AVI format – as well as 15 preset shooting modes and Face Detection and Motion Detection technologies as well as 5 point Face Detection.

For maximum convenience the Canon PowerShot A480, which measures in at a decidedly pocket friendly 92 x 62 x 31mm, is powered by AA batteries and will comes supplied with a 32MB memory card (the camera accepting SD, SDHC, MMC, MMCplus, HC MMCplus cards).
Canon PowerShot A480 Features:
- Compact, lightweight 10.0 Megapixel camera in four colour variations (silver, red, blue or black)
- Canon 3.3x optical zoom
- Easy to use, with simple button layout and intuitive user interface
- 2.5” LCD with Image Inspection Tool for focus checking
- People shots made easy with Face Detection AF/AE/FE/WB and

Set to be released in February in Europe, the Canon PowerShot A480 will be made available in black, blue, red and silver (expect a ‘special edition’ pink version sometime thereafter) and will set you back around a not unreasonable £129 (circa €143 at the present terrible exchange rates).
