Feature Rich, Budget Price

If you’re looking for a new Blu-Ray player but you’re a little restricted in terms of budget Amex Digital’s new BD-P1 Blu-Ray player is well worth a gander as whilst it may come with a particularly low price tag its feature set and capabilities are not in any way unimpressive – in fact, even if you have a little more to spend on a Blu-Ray player Amex Digital’s BD-P1 could prove hard to ignore.

The Amex Digital BD-P1, which comes with Dolby Digital and DTS format support as well as HDMI 1.3, is compatible with a host of optical media including both single and dual layer Blu-Ray discs (BD-R and BD-RE), as well as BD-ROM discs and BD-JAVA 1.1,SUN-JAVA media as well as offering broad DVD format support (DVD, DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW, CD and CD-R/RW discs) and, naturally, will also play ball with MP3, WMA and JPG file formats.

In terms of other features, the Amex Digital BD-P1’s features are equally impressive such as support for Dolby Digital Plus and DTS-HD high-resolution surround and lossless Dolby TrueHD whilst the player, apart from offering the aforementioned HDMI 1.3 interface also comes with integrated Ethernet and USB ports (the latter seemingly being restricted for use in firmware updates rather than offering direct playback of digital media from USB flash memory devices). Additional outputs include component video, composite video, stereo audio, optical digital audio, coaxial and (optional) 7.1 channel audio.

And, as if this were not enough, we should also make mention of the fact that the BD-P1 also offers HD upscaling of non-HD content (DVD content) to 720p, 1080i and 1080p resolutions.

Not impressed (after all, plenty of Blu-Ray players offer all this and more)? Perhaps the fact that we’re talking a sub $200 price point might put things into stark perspective? Yes, we thought so.

No word as yet concerning availability.
