SanDisk have announced a new digital audio player soon to join its Sansa range of DAPs – the SanDisk Sansa slotRadio – a card-plus-player device which relies on slotRadio cards that comes with ‘1,000 songs handpicked from the Billboard charts’.

‘slotRadio’s unprecedented simplicity will have even the most time-pressed music fans enjoying a huge range of music in no time,’ said Daniel Schreiber, senior vice president and general manager, SanDisk, who introduced the SanDisk Sansa slotRadio. ‘1,000 handpicked songs in your pocket with zero downloads makes enjoying digital music easier than ever. Never before has music been this accessible.’

The die-cast aluminum Sansa slotRadio itself comes with a 1.5” OLED display and, whilst the preloaded mSD cards cannot be played by other, standard DAPs they will purportably be compatible with other similar players such as Sansa’s Fuze DAP which each preloaded card (which will be loaded with 1,000 tracks from your chosen genre of music) set to retail at around $40.

Interestingly, from what we can gather from Sansa’s press release, though you can choose the type of music you want you will not actually be able to handpick individual tracks to develop your own playlist, instead receiving a selection of ‘handpicked’ tracks ‘professionally arranged into a variety of genre-themed playlists’ – something that we suspect will appeal to very few people (certainly not us).

The SanDisk Sansa slotRadio will set you back just shy of $100 and is set for release in early 09 (no specific date provided).
