Lenovo have taken the wraps of a new Y Series of IdeaPad notebooks which consist of three new models, namely the IdeaPad Y650, Y550 & Y450 of which the IdeaPad Y650 serves as Lenovo’s first 16” notebook (the Y550 and Y450 being 15.6” and 14” respectively) that, according to Lenovo, is the thinnest and lightest notebook in its class thanks, in part, to utilising carbon fiber in its construction, which sees the device measure in at a mere one inch at its thinnest point whilst weighing in at a mere 5.6 pounds.

‘With the launch of our global consumer Idea brand a year ago, we’ve shown the world that PC technology can be powerful and beautiful,’ said Liu Jun, senior vice president and president, Consumer Business Group, Lenovo, who introduced the new Y Series IdeaPad range. ‘This year, we will keep pushing the limits of good design, balancing form and function, as you’ll see exhibited in our super-thin, 16-inch laptop and all-in-one desktop. This unique blend of design and engineering sets us apart from competitors and gives consumers a new kind of entertainment and computing experience.’

All three of Lenovo’s new Y Series of notebooks features 16:9 aspect ratio ‘glossy’ widescreen displays and can be configured with up to 500GB capacity HDDs and 4GB of DDR3 memory and a series of optional Nvidia GFX graphics cards and Dolby Home Theater surround sound with the IdeaPad Y650 sporting integrated JBL speakers.

Additional highlights mentioned in Lenovo’s press release include the addition of Lenovo’s OneKey Theater software whilst allows end users to adjust the notebook’s sound and display settings as well as switch easily between movie and gaming modes as well as a touch sensitive sidebar which allows users to call a series of program and file shortcuts.

Lenovo state that its new Y Series if IdeaPad notebooks will become available in March of 09 with the IdeaPad Y550 and IdeaPad Y450 retailing from just shy of $830 and the IdeaPad Y650 retailing from around $1,200 though, obviously, optional extras will serve to bump up these prices depending on your desired configuration.
