Admittedly information concerning this Ipevo I-TR-10 3-in-1 Speakerphone designed specifically for Apple’s iChat application is somewhat on the sparse side but, apart from looking (to us at least) like some sort of curious medical gadget, we don’t doubt that the functionality it offers would be welcomed by many.

Jason Lee, the designer behind the Ipevo I-TR-10 Apple iChat 3-In-1 Speakerphone lists its capabilities as follows:

Compact, Light and Loud

  • As versatile as your needs: a speakerphone, private line, and recorder, the TR-10 for iChat is a 3-in-1 tool for all your iChat needs, wrapped in a light, portable design.

Your Recorder

  • Your conversations are important, so why not record them? Store interviews, voice memos or iChat conversations at the touch of a button.

A Social Tool

  • Whether you organise a classroom conference with students, set up a sales meeting with a prospect, the TR-10 delivers crisp voice quality for your conferencing needs.

My Own Private Line

  • Don’t want to share your conversation with everyone else? Toggle the speakerphone to handset and continue chatting privately – without compromising on voice clarity.

Unfortunately, if you’re looking to drill down on the technical side of the Ipevo I-TR-10 there’s really nothing to go by but, being a concept work, this is hardly out of the ordinary (though even a little technical detail would have been nice) but what actually concerns us the most is the device’s styling which, it has to be said, doesn’t quite compliment Apple’s design sensibilities quite as much as we’d like it too. In fact, we would almost go so far as to call the TR-10 ugly (which, whether you’re a fan of Apple or not, is hardly something you could ever accuse Apple products of being).

Still, from a functionality perspective, there’s no doubt that Jason Lee’s Ipevo I-TR-10 Apple iChat 3-In-1 Speakerphone brings a host of potential usability to the table and we especially like the fact that it can be used both as a handsfree unit as well as a handset. Styling wise, however, for us at least, it just doesn’t have quite the spark that is, unquestionably, a prerequisite of any peripheral device designed with Apple’s hardware in mind.
