Baylis Revolution Eco Friendly Portable Media Player [Hand Crank 'Green' PMP]

Following on from the equally environmentally friendly Shiro SQ-S Solar PMP we have another ‘green’ PMP for you in the form of the Baylis Revolution PMP which offers a somewhat differing take on matters in actually requiring you to work for your power thanks to a rear mounted hand crank.

The Baylis Revolution PMP takes the form of a piano black device with rubberised edges which measures in at 25 x 62 x 115mm, weighs in at 170g and which, the manufacturer claims, offers ‘best-in-class 24-bit digital audio performance’ with a single minute of hand cranking providing enough charge for up to 45 minutes of (music) playback. That said, should you wish to wimp out you’ll be pleased to know that the device also comes with an integrated USB port which, apart from being used to transfer files, can also be used to charge the device directly from your computer – with a full charge offering between a purported 48 to 50 hours of endurance.

The Baylis Revolution portable media player sports a 2” TFT, a ‘Thumb-Click Disc’ control for ease of navigation and supports a host of audio and video file formats including MP3, WAV, WMA, WMV9, OGG, AVI as well as image formats (BMP, JPG and GIF) allowing the device to be used as a portable digital picture album. Additionally, as well as an integrated FM tuner, the Baylis Revolution also offers recording capabilities thanks to a built in analogue audio recorder with a built-in pre-amp that can ‘digitally encode direct from any external microphone or any other source via the line-in socket, in addition to recording via its built-in voice mic.’

Interestingly, the Baylis Revolution can also be used as a portable gadget charger (allowing you to recharge gadgets such as cell phones and the PMP you actually use most of the time when removed from the gaze of your eco-buddies) as well as an emergency LED torch.

Available in two versions – the 4GB capacity EP-MX72-4GB and the 8GB capacity EP-MX72-8GB (though both accept SD memory cards to further supplement available storage capacity) – the Baylis Revolution eco-friendly portable media player retails for around $180 (4GB) and $210 (8GB).
