The SlingPlayer app for BlackBerry, which enables you to watch and control your home TV and DVR via your Slingbox, will enter public beta on the 30th of December 2008. Customers in the U.S, Canada, and the U.K will be the first ones to avail the download. The app had been in private beta for almost a year. Amongst the major smartphone operating systems, the SlingPlayer app has come last to RIM BlackBerry.

A high-speed Internet connection, a P.C on the home network with SlingPlayer 2.0 for Windows, and a Slingbox with remote viewing enabled are the chief requirements for watching live TV, including satellite and cable, remotely on your BlackBerry. BlackBerry models on which the SlingPlayer will run straightaway include BlackBerry Bold, Curve 8900, 8820, Curve 8320, Pearl Flip 8220, and Pearl 8120. These have to be updated to OS 4.5. The private beta phase was carried out on one version of the BlackBerry Pearl. However, BlackBerry Storm has been excluded from models on which the SlingPlayer will run. Sling Media support for the device is dependent on your location and carrier.
