That was for legal reasons. The Fujifilm system is based on Kodak’s system which was taken off the market because it infringed Polaroid’s patents. Fujifilm were able to release theirs with permission from Polaroid, but only in certain countries.

Perhaps Polaroid changed their minds because they were no longer making their old-style (non digital) instant film cameras.
