Legacy Engineering Group Brings Classic Joystick Into 21st Century

Those of you retro gamers using a PC or Mac will no doubt applaud the Legacy Engineering Group for taking Atari’s classic joystick and adding USB connectivity allowing retro gamers to genuinely feel the true ‘80’s experience as you fire up some of the classics on your computer.

Billed as being with ‘nearly any emulator’ (though MAME, Daphne and Stella are specifically named), the Legacy Group’s USB Classic Atari Joystick guarantees a genuine old school gaming experience and first shipments are expected from the first week of December.

The USB Classic Atari Joystick will set you back just shy of $15 though discounts are on offer for multiple purchases.

I bought two and I love them. So far, I have modded one to add extra weight (bothered me ever since 1978 they were so light) and I plan on modding the other (bought two) with extra function buttons. Great joystick!

I just purchased one of these in Oct 2010 and it lasted for all of 6 weeks before the handle snapped off. Also the fire button began to stick (although it still worked) and some of the fingers inside at the bottom of the stick broke off and 1 cracked. Until better plastic is used I do not recommended this. My children used the original Atari joystick on our C64 for years and never broke a joystick, so they know how to use them. I contacted Legacy and told them of the trouble and it sounds like they will refund the money but I really would like to see this product improved so I could buy another.
