Having just posted, at some length, concerning Samsung’s Q1 Diamond DAP, we felt compelled to offer a brief heads up concerning other release news concerning Samsung DAP devices, this time relating to Samsung’s new, budget priced YU-U4 ‘USB Type’ MP3 player which, whilst not quite as exciting as the Samsung Q1 will still undoubtedly appeal to those looking for a more rudimentary DAP.
Measuring in at a mere 27×83x13mm and sporting a high gloss finish which Samsung state is the same as that featured on their LCD TVs (we’re not sure if that’s a particular selling point for those in the market for a new DAP, but we’ll run with it), the Samsung YU-U4 takes the form, as alluded to previously, of a flash memory style device and comes with 2GB or 4GB capacities, is available in Navy Purple, Crystal Rose or Ocean Blue and offers MP3, WMA, OGG audio file format support. Additionally it also comes with integrated FM tuner supporting RDS.
In terms of display, the YU-U4 comes with a 128×64 OLED screen which neatly shines through the device’s casing whilst other notable features include voice memo recording, datacasting (MP3 only) and a battery endurance of around 16 hours based on a full charge (not magnificent, but hardly the worst we’ve seen for these USB stick type players).
In terms of unit pricing, the 2GB Samsung YU-U4 will set you back around £23 whilst the 4GB Samsung YU-U4 comes in at £29 (which, those on the ball will have noted, means you get an additional 2GB of capacity for mere a £6 premium).
