Having recently apologised to the Church of England after using Manchester Cathedral as a setting in their FPS title Resistance: Fall of Man, Sony have acted to recall their up and coming title LittleBigPlannet from Media Molecule after it came to light that some of its background music contained two phrases taken from the Koran.
Due to have been release this week, LittleBigPlannet – which is widely expected to be on of this autumn’s blockbusters – is now expected to be released on around the 28 of October once the track in question, which its believed will cause offence to Muslims, is removed prior to the title being redistributed.
‘During the review process prior to the release of LittleBigPlanet, it has been brought to our attention that one of the background music tracks licensed from a record label for use in the game contains two expressions that can be found in the Qur’an’ states Patrick Seybold of SCEA on the PlayStation blog. ‘We have taken immediate action to rectify this and we sincerely apologise for any offence that this may have caused.’
Interestingly, however, according to an unnamed member of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, Sony’s recall is somewhat of an over reaction, stating ‘Many Americans already feel that Muslims want to censor everything.’
