Whilst, thanks to an announcement by Asus CEO Jerry Shen, we know that Asus are set to release yet another variant of its Eee PC netbook in ’09 that, Shen’s on record as stating will break the sub $300 barrier, Best Buy have acted quickly to steal some of Asus’s thunder in dropping the price of the Asus Eee PC 900A model to just below the $300 price point ($299.99 to be exact).

For those unfamiliar with the Eee PC 900A netbook, the 1.6GHz Atom N207 powered Asus Eee PC 901A, which comes preloaded with the Linux OS, comes with 1GB DDR2 SoDIMM memory, a 8.9” WSVGA 1024×600 resolution display, integrated Intel 950 graphics, a 4GB SSD, integrated Secure Digital and MultiMediaCard formats card reader but sans optical drive (an optional DVD-ROM can be fitted, however).
