BenQ S6 3.5G Touchscreen SSD Mobile Internet Device & PMP

Atom Powered, G-Sensor MID

When it comes to Mobile Internet Devices (MIDs), BenQ certainly look to cause a considerable stir with their newly unveiled, Atom powered 4.8” 800×480 WVGA resolution touchscreen BenQ S6 which, apart from looking positively stunning, not only serves as a highly ‘pocketable’ 3.5G touchscreen MID but also a fully fledged PMP (Portable Media Player) offering a host of file format support (including OGG – yes, our OGG fixation shows no signs of abating just yet) complete with integrated G-Sensor motion sensing allowing users to scroll through web pages and transition between landscape and portrait modes by merely titling the device.

Powered by a 800MHz Intel Atom CPU, the BenQ S6, which measures in at 158x90x22mm and weighs just 370g, comes with 512MB DDR2 SDRAM, built in 2GB SSD storage – which can be supplemented courtesy of an integrated microSD card slot – Bluetooth 2.0 +EDR and USB connectivity as well as 802.11b/g Wi-Fi and UMTS/HSDPA (Band: 2100) GSM/GPRS/EDGE (Band: 900/1800/1900) WLAN.

Offering WAV, OGG, MP3 and Midi audio file format support as well as OGG, MPEG1, H.264, MPEG2, MPEG4, DivX 5/6, VC1, WMV9 video file format support and, as far as images are concerned, JPEG, PNG, GIF, BMP and TIFF there’s now doubt that the BenQ S6 is set to be a pronominally versatile device and, we’ll be honest here, of all the MIDs we’ve seen here on TFTS the S6 is one that we’re especially excited about so you can expect further, somewhat more in-depth coverage concerning the S6 the moment we can hone in on the device’s full blown specifications (battery life, for example, is one thing that is not mentioned at this stage).

There’s no word concerning either availably or pricing concerning BenQ’s S6 MID at the time of writing, however, just to whet your appetite still further we’d recommend viewing BenQ’s promotional video as featured below (very impressive).
