Much has been said about the advent of the OLED (organic LED) screens and we are proud to congratulate Sony on being the first to release the Organic Light Emitting Diode technology at the recent hi-tech exhibition in Berlin.
This OLED technology is said to be the most progressive technology to date and Sony’s XEL-1 11-Inch OLED HDTV is the first of many more to come.
The OLED technology has ensured that screens are now thinner than ever and the Sony XEL-1 11-Inch OLED HDTV is sitting at a miniscule 3mm (ONLY)! The OLED screen ensures better picture quality (due to a greater amount of light being directed at the colour pixels), wide viewing angles and overall faster response time. Due to the organic technology of electrons circulating between anode and cathode, this XEL-1 11-Inch OLED HDTV consumes only 60% of the current consumption of energy in similar LCD screens.
Working with this technology should bring about much cheaper retail prices due to the ease of manufacturing these organic panels which will probably mean more screen for less!
The XEL-1 11-Inch OLED HDTV comes standard with Dolby Digital, A/V Synch, MTS Stereo Decoder and also Memory Stick Media Slot and an RF Connection.
However, with great news comes some bad news and organic matter tends to “die” before inorganic matter and so this technology only has about 14 000 hours worth of viewing time whereas other LCD displays have up to 60 000 hours.
So in the end it’s up to you what you want from newer technology; brighter, crisper images and faster response time or years worth of enjoyment? You decide!
