Sony have released tantalising first details of their new AW Series VAIO laptops which are set to supersede Sony’s AR Series VAIO model and which brings a host of technological advancements to the table, not least of which is the new VAIO’s 18.4” display that, according to Sony, ‘is a technical breakthrough found on high-end Bravia LCD TVs’ in boasting 3LED display technology (simular to that used on 3 chip video cameras) offering purer colour reproduction courtesy of separate red, green, and blue LEDs.
In addition to the aforementioned 3LED display technology the new Sony VAIO AW Series’ 16:9 aspect ratio screen offers true 1080p (1920×1080) resolution which, paired with the units integrated Blu-ray drive (which we should emphasis is bundled as standard from the information we have available) makes this an ideal portable home entertainment laptop which, thanks to inbuilt 802.11n Wi-Fi, 2GB of RAM and a GeForce 9600M GT graphics card as well as a 2.53GHz Core 2 Duo CPU and dual 250GB HDDs will be equally at home with multi-media as it will be powering through business applications.
The Sony VAIO AW Series of laptops, which will come is a series of configurations ranging from around $2800 to $3000 (the latter being the 3LED display model), are due to begin shipping in Japan from around October 20th with an expected US release following shortly after – though US models are yet to be officially specified.
