Sony have announced the immediate recall of around 438,000 (of which some 73,000 are in the US) of its Sony Vaio TZ-Series laptops due to overheating issues which have reportedly resulting in Sony already receiving 15 reports from customers one customer of which suffered what’s being reported as ‘a minor burn’.
According to the recall announcement, the recall particularly concerns the VAIO VGN-TZ100 series, VGN-TZ200 series, VGN-TZ300 series and VGN-TZ2000 series models which suffer from ‘irregularly positioned wires near the computer’s hinge and/or a dislodged screw inside the hinge (which) can cause a short circuit and overheating’.
The units concerned were sold from between July 2007 and August 2008 and customers who believe that there model may be affected are being urged to ‘stop using the recalled notebook computers immediately and contact Sony to determine if their notebook is affected’.
