Sony are set to add to its ever popular Cybershot range of compact digital cameras with the new Cybershot DSC-T500 which, apart from featuring a 3.5” touchscreen LCD display also comes with the ability to capture 720p HD quality movies at a fluid 30 frames per second and a dual photo and video capture mode which enables the DSC-T500 to capture up to three photos whilst also recording video footage.
‘Our research revealed that people like to shoot video with their point-and-shoot cameras, but were very dissatisfied with the video quality and the resulting large files,’ said Phil Lubell, director of digital camera marketing at Sony Electronics. ‘Our new T500 fulfills this customer need for a digital camera that delivers high-quality movies in a small form factor.’

The Cybershot DSC-T500, which utalises the MPEG4 AVC/H.264 codec for video compression and stereo audio, comes with a 5x optical Carl Zeiss zoom lens, incorporates Optical SteadyShot image stabilization and high sensitivity settings up to ISO3200 as well as face detection technology capable of locking onto up to 8 faces in any one scene, and, naturally, given its 720p video capture capabilities, can be connected directly to HDTVs via an integrated HDMI port.
Due to be supplied in black with a brushed metal finish, Sony’s Cybershot DSC-T500 is set to become available towards the latter part of September for around $400.
