Sony have officially taken the wraps off their new 1080p HD capable Bravia Engine 2 powered KDL-40ZX1 LCD TV which, in measuring in at a mere 9.9mm in thickness has assumed the increasingly hallowed mantle of being the world’s thinnest LCD TV.

An ideal LCD TV for wall mounting, the 40” Sony KDL-40ZX1, which weighs in at just 12.2kg (26 pounds), boasts 3000:1 contrast ratio, 178 degree viewing angle and comes complete with 120hz MotionFlow technology offering improved image quality during fast-moving sequences but, interestingly, only comes with a solitary HDMI port on account of being provided with a wireless HD base station offering 3 HDMI ports, 2 component, s-video, VGA, and USB connectivity (allowing you to hook up additional hardware such as Sony camcorders) paired with connections for a mouse (for use with navigating the XMB Playstation style crossmedia interface styled menu) and even a LAN port. Unfortunately, at the time of writing, one thing yet to be confirmed, however, is the wireless range offered by the HD base station – though its not unreasonable to expect it to be around 20 meters.
The Sony HD KDL-40ZX1 will begin shipping as of November with a retail price of around £2440 (approximately $4478/€3032).
