Samsung have detailed their new MX20 compact camcorder which, whilst lacking HD quality capture, does sport the ability to record footage in H.264 codec format directly to SD memory cards meaning that not only can the MX20 store up to an impressive 4 hours of footage to an 8GB SD card (or 8hrs to a 16GB card) but that videos can be uploaded directly to iPods or YouTube without conversion with the MX20’s built-in Web & Mobile function serving additionally to automatically adjust resolution to 640×480 VGA mode.

Introduced by Sang Ryong Kim, Senior Vice President of the Camcorder Business Team at Samsung Electronics, who states ‘The MX20 is the next-generation camcorder engineered for people who want to capture more vivid memories and easily share them on multimedia devices and the internet’ the MX20 comes with a high-performance 680K-pixel CCD sensor paired with an impressive 34x optical zoom Schneider lens, 3-D noise reduction technology ensuring ‘smooth video’ and Samsung’s edge filter technology for ‘ stunning video details and clarity, and color control technology for original and natural colors’.
Further highlights include Hyper Digital Image Stabilization, advanced face detection capable of locking onto up to five faces in any one scene and iCheck and iScene modes offering an indication as to battery life and memory capacity (without powering up the camcorder) and 10 automatic scene modes respectively.
The Samsung MX20 will become available from September in Japan for an as yet unknown price point and, with a bit of luck, will see a wider international release sometime thereafter.
