As far as portable media players go the new Elvis themed PMP undoubtedly stands quite apart from the crowd of often somewhat nondescript PMPs in terms of both originality, aesthetics and sheer quirkiness and, whether you like the player itself (or even Elvis, for that matter – and who in their right mind cannot, at the very least, respect the King) the fact that this PMP set for release from Zvue manages to distinguish itself from the masses of players currently available quite to the extent that it does should, quite rightly, be applauded by us all.
Certainly the retro styling of the Elvis themed PMP – which is set to be released as part of Zvue’s Premier Artists Series – may not appeal to all but, never ones to sit on the fence, we positively love the design and, let’s be honest here, this is, at least, one PMP that doesn’t resemble some sort of iPod/iRiver/Creative mash up which is extremely refreshing.
Coming with 1GB of internal memory (expandable up to 5GB with the use of a micro SD card) and a 2.4” colour TFT screen the Elvis Presley’s Signature Media Player may not offer quite the cutting edge specifications of other PMPs (it will only play MP3, WMA and WAV audio files and MTV video files) but it does, at least, also come with integrated FM tuner, photo viewer, text reader and voice recorder and, whilst many a PMP offers all this and (far) more, just how many can boast that they come with 10 video clips of the King himself in action preloaded?

Due to be released on August 12 – at which point it will be stocked at Wal-mart – Zvue’s Elvis Presley’s Signature Media Player will set you back just shy of $50 though one can only speculate as to which other artists may follow in the series. How about a Jimmy Hendrix PMP shaped like a guitar, a Britney Spears PMP shaped like a (no, ok, even we can’t (wouldn’t) go there – besides she’s hardly in the same class is she?), or a Michael Jackson PMP with revolutionary morphing abilities that also gradually changes colour and which comes preloaded with nursery rhymes his greatest hits?
(It’s hard being both the writer and editor, but safe to say that the editor side of me has just stepped in to end this post right here, right now)
