Hannspree Intro Summer Line-up Quirky 19” Sports Themed LCD TVs

Hannspree, a company that has built somewhat of a reputation for quirkily designed TVs (such as the previously featured Starlight Blue and the overtly distinctive Chips LCD with Ketchup Remote) have announced a new, sports themed series of 19” LCD TVs as part of their new summer line-up comprising of the Hannspree Basketball, Hannspree Baseball, Hannspree Soccer and Hannspree Slammer.
Very much placed at the lower middle range in terms of specifications – these new units seem to be aimed squarely at either children or as secondary TVs for games rooms, etc – the new Basketball, Baseball and Soccer ball themed LCDs offer 1280 x 1024 SXGA+ resolution, 300 cd/m² brightness, a (hardly impressive) 1000:1 contrast ratio and 5ms response time. The Hannspree Slammer, on the other hand, whilst offering the same degree of brightness, sports 1440 x 900 resolution and a mere 700:1 contrast ratio.

All four models come with VGA and HDMI inputs and whilst the three ball themed TVs – including the black (?!) baseball – sport leather finishing the Slammer comes with (and I quote), a ‘white sticker bearing the multi-layered Hannspree Logo on the front side of the monitor [which] adds a feeling of vigor and liveliness to the product to enhance its unique design sense.’. A sticker. Mmm. Hardly a clincher, is it?
In short, and as if you hadn’t already gathered, as novel as these new Hannspree LCD TVs are, ultimately, it seems that their quirky design very much won out at the expense of substance except, of course, unless you happen to be a young child looking for a set for your room – in which case we suspect that these new LCDs might (just might) actually appeal.
No word concerning either pricing or availability at this juncture though the fact that these LCDs are billed as being part of Hannspree’s summer line-up would indicate that their release is scheduled for the immediate short term.
