Whilst we suspect that the boffins at Sony may well have something to say concerning this device’s overt aesthetic similarities to their PSP there’s no doubting that Maxx Digital’s widescreen portable DVD player, which also accepts content stored on SD, MMC and MS memory cards, thanks to an integrated card reader, certainly looks the business.

Featuring a 16:9 widescreen 8.5” high resolution TFT display (interestingly, no actual screen resolutions are detailed – which seems a curious omission), the Maxx Digital PDV-8500BLK offers DVD, DVD+/-R, DVD+/-RW, CD, CD-R/RW, VCD and SVCD optical disc compatibility with MPEG4, MP3 and JPEG file format support and comes with a 24bit DAC, composite video and analogue audio inputs and composite video out port as well as USB connectivity and even comes complete with remote control. The PDV-8500BLK, despite its appearance, does not come with any built-in games, however.
