Logic Instrument Tetra T-Pad Ultra Rugged Smartphone/PDA [Shockproof Handset Boasts Truly Shocking Price]

As far as ultra rugged cell phones are concerned we’ve seen the likes of Sonim’s XP1 JCB ToughPhone and Samsung’s Solid and now, to add to our collection of ultra durable handsets, we have the Tetra T-Pad from Logic Instrument which, in fairness, is rather more of a smartphone/PDA than a simple cell phone but, even with the extra functionality on offer, the price of the Tetra T-Pad seems, shall we say, somewhat overly zealous.

Purportedly having met US military standards that consist of 25 separate tests designed to push gadgetry to its limits in terms of shock resistance, resistance to vibration and extreme temperatures as well as a device’s ability to withstand dust, water and other substances that would see any bog-standard device give up the proverbial ghost almost instantly, Logic Instrument’s Tetra T-Pad is undoubtedly a ‘toughguy’ gadget, but what exactly do you get for your $2,600 (and yes, you read that right – the Tetra T-Pad costs an astounding $2,600)?

The device is based on Intel’s Xscale 400MHz PXA 263 processor, comes with 64MB SDRAM and 64MB ROM, sports a 4.0” VGA 480 x 640 pixel LCD Colour ‘Outdoor Readable’ touchscreen display with integrated backlight, a 16 key keypad with 4 programmable function keys, 1x USB and 1x Serial RS232 connections and integrated compact Flash and SD memory card slots. Additionally the Tetra T-Pad, which measures in at 10.28 cm x 18.6 cm x 4.65 cm, runs Microsoft Windows CE.NET 4.2 and you also get Bluetooth.

Offering a battery life of ‘over 5 hours’ (therefore quite obviously under 6) the Tetra T-Pad can be dropped from heights of up to 60” onto concrete, can survive temperatures varying from -20ºC to +50ºC, humidity levels of up to 95% and will still function at altitudes of up to 4500m.

Unfortunately it would appear that we, unlike the Tetra T-Pad, are not especially shockproof as we still cannot quite get over the price as, whilst undoubtedly a capable (if not especially cutting-edge) device, we simply cannot get over the fact that this will set you back $2,600.
