
Panasonic have acted to put a little flesh on the bones concerning their Atom Z520 powered ToughBook CF-U1 ultra rugged UMPC which first surfaced back in March, confirming that, apart from using Intel’s 1.33GHz Atom Z520 processor the ToughBook CF-U1 will also come with 1GB of RAM, a removable 16GB SSD (an optional upgrade to a 32GB SSD being available), 3G connectivity and integrated GPS.

With further options being listed as including 3G mobile broadband, integrated camera, fingerprint scanner, GPS, barcode or RFID readers, Panasonic’s ToughBook CF-U1, which measures in as a decidedly compact 2.2” (H) x 7.2” (W) x 5.9” and weighs 2.3lbs (complete with both battery packs) purportedly offers up to 9 hours of endurance based on a full charge and is stated as becoming internationally available in August at around $2500.
