NEC Intro MultiSync 19” EA19M LCD Display With ‘Eco Mode’ & ‘Carbon Footprint Meter’

NEC EA19M Carbon Aware Monitor

NEC MultiSync EA19M Eco LCD Display

It seems that, in the world of consumer electronics, just about everything worth its salt is either pink or ‘green’ these days (the latter serving to help the environment, the former just looking gaudy) and there’s no doubt that NEC’s new MultiSync 19” EA19M LCD Display very much falls into the former category with a set of eco-friendly credentials that really ought to appease all but the most stringent of tree-huggers.

Offering a 19” high-performance PVA panel capable of a maximum resolution of 1280 x 1024, NEC’s MultiSync EA19M LCD is aimed squarely at businesses looking to do their bit for the environment as opposed to discerning hardcore gamers who wouldn’t be seen dead with such restrictive pixel counts.

Whereas, from a base-level specs perspective, however, the EA19M fails to impress where it undoubtedly excels is in its eco-friendly outlook thanks to not only being awarded an EPEAT Silver certificate (the EPEAT system compares different electronics devices using 23 obligatory environmental criteria such as energy consumption and efficiency, use of hazardous materials, recycling, packaging and production methods) but also in offering two modes designed to help the display cut down on power consumption.

Using a mere 38W whilst in operation and just 2W whilst in standby, NEC’s EA19M also acts to cut power consumption further thanks to both an ‘Eco Mode’ and a ‘Carbon Footprint Meter’ – the first serving to limit the display’s brightness to 60% of its full setting, the second appearing as part of the EA19M’s on-screen menu offering feedback as to, in NEC’s words, ‘how much the carbon emissions are reduced when the brightness is turned down.’

Apparently having just been made available – though we were unable to locate a listing on the official NEC site at the time of writing – the MultiSync 19” EA19M LCD is offered in either black or white (no pink – bummer) and will set you back around £205.
