Sony Ericsson F305 Wii Style Motion Gaming Handset

Prior to Sony Ericsson’s official announcement concerning their up and coming F305 handset, which is expected on June 17, some initial details have been leaked allowing us to get an early low-down concerning the much anticipated F305 which promises to bring ‘Wii style’ motion controlled gaming to your pocket and, whilst not wishing to dampen your expectations in any way, it would appear that Sony Ericsson’s F305 is far from spectacular.

Measuring in at 96 x 47 x 14.6mm, Sony Ericsson’s quad-band GSM F305 sports a 2” 262k TFT display offering a somewhat uninspiring (some would say overly disappointing) 176 x 220 resolution, comes with mere EDGE network connectivity, an integrated media player with 10MB of built-in storage capacity which, thankfully, is expandable with Memory Stick Micro cards and will purportedly offer up to eight hours of continuous gaming between full charges (though, of course, this will be reduced if making/taking calls).

The key feature, however, and perhaps the only feature of any particular note, is the F305’s motion controlled gaming capabilities whereby you’ll employ the phone very much like you do the Wii’s controllers to control in-game actions. Interestingly, there appears to be no wrist strap on the F305 though, which will no doubt lead to more than a few F305’s becoming airborne during gaming – though this very depends on the force required by the device’s games (and this is yet to be established).

Three motion controlled games are pre-loaded on the F305, namely Bowling, Jockey and Bass Fishing (the F305 comes with a virtual fishing game – who would have thought it). By way of complimenting the F305’s motion sensing abilities the handset also comes with dedicated gaming controls.

Due to be officially announced by Sony Ericsson this week (June 17) and expected to become available sometime in Q3, we’ll be interested to see a little more detail as well as unit pricing bearing in mind the F305’s rather uninspiring specifications and, of course, we’ll follow this post with an update the moment Sony Ericsson spill the beans.
