Sharp Aquos LB-1085 LCD HD TV Boasts 108” [LB-1085 Billed as World’s Largest LCD Display Set For Japanese Release]

Whilst LG may be claiming to have produced the world’s most energy efficient monitor in the form of their LG Flatron W2252TE 22” display, Sharp have also claimed a world first in having just unveiled a somewhat less energy efficient HDTV display that they are billing as the world’s largest LCD TV thanks to their Aquos LB-1085 LCD HD TV which sports a truly colossal 108” (approximately 3.2m²) sized screen.

Offering full HD definition (1920 x 1080 resolution) imagery with a palette of 7.6 million colours, Sharp’s Aquos LB-1085 widescreen LCD, which measures in at 2572 x 202 x 1550mm and weighs in at around a staggering 195kg, comes with integrated stereo sound rated at 15W per channel (apparently no sub-woofer, which is a curious omission), 400cd/m2 screen brightness, 1,200:1 contrast ratio and a viewing angle of 176º with connectivity being taken care of by standard audio and video and no less than three HDMI ports. Interestingly the Aquos LB-1085 also boasts a response time of a mere 6ms which, considering the size of this beast, is especially impressive.

Consuming a considerable 1,130W of power in use (out of interest, and to put matters into stark perspective the aforementioned LG Flatron W2252TE 22” display uses just 22W) Sharp’s colossal Aquos LB-1085 108” LCD HD TV is to become available in Japan next week (so will already be available if your are reading this off the front page) and, as you’d expect for a display of this magnitude it has an equally huge price tag equivalent to approximately $97,475 / £50,000 / €63,427.
