New Asus Eee PC’s Step Out of Budget PC Bracket

We have tried our utmost to stay on top of developments concerning Asus’s new versions of its highly popular Eee PC – namely the new Eee PC 901, 10″ Eee PC 1000 and 10″ Eee PC 1000/H – and, by way of a brief update, we felt obliged to offer a heads up concerning pricing details of Asus’s new Eee PC’s which, as speculated, are somewhat higher than initially expected and serve to put the new Eee PC’s out of the budget bracket established by previous models.

According to an Asus rep who spoke to Laptop Mag (duly credited), the new Eee PC series will be priced in the US as follows:

  • Eee PC 901 (both Linux and Windows versions): $599
  • Eee PC 1000 (both Linux and Windows versions): $699
  • Eee PC 1000H (Windows version only): $649

It should be noted, however, that the rep stressed that these prices are ‘estimated and subject to change’ which leaves the gate wide open for last minute revisions but, with pricing of the Eee PC 901 estimated at $599 this would match the price of HP’s Mini-Note (entry level spec model) exactly and, being that, at the time of writing, we certainly see HP’s Mini-Note as the Eee PC’s most worthy competitor we don’t doubt that this matching price point is more than a mere coincidence.
