TDK HS1 Series 64GB Micro SATA Solid State Drives

TDK have announced their new HS1 Series solid state disk drives which the company will debut at this year’s Computex 2008 Expo due to start in Taipei tomorrow which, at a mere 1.8” are the smallest SSD’s to be made available with a micro SATA interface and will come in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB capacities.

Featuring burst write speeds of 50MBp/s – thanks in no small part to employing a four-channel bus between the controller LSI and the NAND flash memory – and read speeds of 100MBp/s, TDK’s HS1 Series SSD also utilises a single chip NAND flash memory control circuit and SATA interface circuit allowing for power consumption in ‘slumber mode’ (during which the drive is neither writing or reading) of a mere 20mA. Also of note is the HS1 Series SSD’s built in hardware level 128-bit AES data encryption and the device’s in-built error detection which is capable of not only detecting, but also correcting, errors up to 7 bits whilst the device also offers a purported rewrite life of up to 10 years (based on the drive operating 24/7).
