iRiver SPINN PMP

Back in January we posted about iRiver’ new and decidedly luscious SPINN PMP which occasioned more than a few jaws to drop at this year’s CES but, at that time, all we could tell you was that iRiver’s SPINN would become available later in the year on account of no release dates being divulged, however, at last, iRiver has confirmed that their SPINN will be released in August.

We covered the SPINN’s capabilities back in our original post, as linked above, but, just by way of a brief summary, the SPINN, apart from boasting looks that could doubtless kill at twenty paces, comes with a 3.2” AMOLED 480 x 272 resolution display, MP3, WMA, MPEG-4 and OGG file format compatibility, Bluetooth and a purported battery life of up to 25 hours for audio, five hours for video and four hours of digital radio (which is not especially brilliant, but when a PMP looks this good we’re more than happy to gloss over somewhat poor battery life). The SPINN also supports Flash video and, interestingly, even comes with a dedicated 3D acceleration chip to allow for a particularly smooth animated UI.

Set to become available in the UK in August in either 4GB, 8GB or 16GB, with DAB radio capabilities thrown in, iRiver have not, at the time of writing, seen fit to confirm unit pricing but we will, of course, endeavour to update this post as soon as this information becomes available (assuming we are not otherwise engaged in queuing up to ensure we bag one as soon as we possibly can).
