Activision Confirm Wii Version of Guitar Hero World Tour To Offer Downloadable Content For Wii Gamers

Utalising Wii’s Limited Storage Capacity

Activision has confirmed that the Wii version of their Guitar Hero World Tour software title, previously known as Guitar Hero Rock Band Edition World Tour, is set to become the ‘first game ever in the Guitar Hero franchise to allow in-game downloadable content on Wii’ just as various software publishes are raising concerns that the Wii, in lacking a HDD based storage solution such as those offered by the PS3 and Xbox 360, is proving a stumbling block as far the development of downloadable content is concened.

At the time of writing it is not known exactly what type of downloadable content will be made available (specifically) for the Wii being that the Wii has a mere 512MB of internal storage capacity as, whilst storage capacity can be supplimented with the use of SD cards, the Wii will only play ball with downloadable content if it is stored in the console’s 512MB internal memory (rendering SD cards wholly redundant as far as executable downloadable content is concerned).

Interestingly, Harmonix – the originaors of the Guitar Hero series prior to the franchise being acquired by MTV Games – had previously cited that subsequent Wii titles in the Guitar Hero series would not support downloadable content on account of concerns regarding the console’s storage capabilities, so Activisiton’s new statement is especially intreguing.

    1. [...] When it comes to Wii there is only one choice for music-based rhythm games, and that choice is Guitar Hero. Developer Vicarious Visions actually cares about putting the best experience possible on Wii, whereas Harmonix simply defecates their rhythm game onto a styrofoam plate and expect it to work. World Tour is the latest addition to the franchise, and is the first to take a page from Rock Band’s book and include drums and and microphone in addition to the guitar and bass. The only difference between the two is that Rock Band blows on Wii and Guitar Hero offers the full experience just as well on Wii as any other system. (IGN’s  review | img via) [...]
