Maxiam Upgrades E900 (DICtionary) PMP

46 Volume Electronic Dictionary, Greater Storage, PDA Capabilities

Maxiam Upgraded E900 DICtionary PMP

Another day, another PMP, or so it would seem, but Maxiam’s E900 PMP is genuinely worth posting about on account of succumbing to an upgrade that sees its storage capacity doubled from 30GB to 60GB and, not only that, the device comes complete with integrated dictionary purportedly spanning 46 volumes (that’s some dictionary).

The Maxiam’s E900 PMP, which runs the WinCe 5.0 operating system, is undoubtedly an impressive piece of kit though, personally, we would have liked to have seen its styling get an update as well as its storage capacity (we’re not particularly struck by its aesthetics though they are not, by any means, the poorest we’ve seen and this is very much a case of personal taste).

Now sporting the aforementioned 60GB of HDD based capacity, the Maxiam E900 comes with a 4.3” 16M colour 800×480 resolution WVGA screen and, apart from offering truly comprehensive AVI, MPG, WMV, ASF, DAT, VOB, MP4(M4V), TS, MKV, MPEG-1/2, DivX, XviD, H.264, and AC3 video file format support also supports MP2, MP3, MP4, WAV, WMA, OGG, ACE, AAC, FLAC, APE, MKA, TTA audio file formats (good to see OGG in there) which is, by anyone’s standards, a particularly broad remit. The device can also output WMV9HD 720p HD video courtesy of a TV out socket which is also warmly welcomed.

Other notable highlights include its capability to record video directly in ASF format at 720 x 480 resolution and, just to add to ease of usability, you can even plug in a USB keyboard and mouse. Naturally, should 60GB of storage capacity prove somewhat limiting then further capacity can be added via the use of SD and MMC memory cards. Alas, no included DMB functionality at this time, however.

No news at the time of writing concerning availability but the E900 purportedly carries a price tag equivalent to $486 (we’ll endeavour to confirm this as well as its availability as soon as we are able, though one can only speculate whether this undoubtedly capable PMP will ever make it to our shores).
