Having just posted about JVC’s Everio S GZ-MS100 we felt compelled to offer a brief heads up concerning another JVC camcorder, namely the DVR565HD Vivitar, which, apart from being a particularly compact ‘pistol grip’ device also has the capability to record footage in 720p HD definition which, considering its low price point, makes this a rather tempting camcorder for those on tight budgets but who are not prepared to buy into lower priced video cameras at the expense of image quality.
JVC’s DVR565HD Vivitar camcorder is, arguably, also aimed at the very same market as the aforementioned Everio S GZ-MS100 which, of course, also puts it in direct competition with Pure Video’s Flip and, from the named specifications, there’s no doubt that this is a somewhat serious contender in offering 720p HD definition video capture at a fluid 30fps in either MPEG4 or H.264 file formats. The DVR565HD Vivitar can also capture stills at 5 megapixel resolutions.

Just like JVC’s Everio S GZ-MS100 the DVR565HD relies primarily on SD cards for storage – the DVR565HD comes with a paltry 32MB of onboard storage capacity – and, aart from offering 4x digital zoom other notable highlights include a 720 x 480 resolution flip out TFT screen and the device’s apparent capability to play back 1080i video via a HDMI hook up to a HDTV.
JVC’s DVR565HD Vivitar 5MP 720p HD Digital Camcorder is presently available from Target for just shy of $130 which, in anyone’s book, is quite a steal.
