Whilst real life products being offering within games is nothing new – Second Life being a prime example – we couldn’t help but raise a smile concerning the news that the Swedish company known for its affordable furnishings are to have a range of their products made available in Electronic Arts’ Sims 2 title thanks to an up and coming expansion pack.
Of course, this is not the first time real world ‘branded’ products have made their way into the Sims as H&M clothing has already been made available courtesy of a fashion pack released around a year ago, but we have to hand it to both Ikea and EA for coming up with this means of kitting out your Sims homes with the Swedish giant’s take on affordable modern furnishings.

Featuring such gems as the Vika Hyttan desk, Kila desk lamp, Helmer drawer unit, and Lack zigzag wall shelf what remains unclear at the time of writing is whether all of the purchased virtual flat pack furnishings on offer will come with at least several vital screws missing, resulting in family arguments as to whether the instructions have been followed correctly, or whether, with the addition of the new Ikea products, the Sims will suddenly develop a seemingly insatiable appetite for meatballs.
Currently available for pre-order, the Sims 2 Ikea Home Stuff Expansion Pack is due for release in June and will retail for around $20 / £12.
