Asus Eee PC 901 Due June – Atom Powered, Alloy Trims [And Logo Revisions]

Having only posted about another competitor set to take on the Asus Eee just a couple of days ago, namely the up and coming MSI’s Atom powered Wind, reports just surfacing suggest that Asus will be launching a new Eee in the form of the Eee PC 901 in June which, apart sporting from some cosmetic changes, will be Atom powered and sport a few additional keys, some alloy trimming as well as the substitution of the Asus logo with an Eee PC logo.
Whilst the inclusion of an Atom processor under the hood will doubtless prove the main draw of the new Eee 901, in essence the majority of changes seem, on the face of it, rather uninspiring. Certainly, the addition of a number of new keys is more than welcomed as is the removal of the power button from the Eee’s screen hinge but other revisions, such as the substitution of the Asus logo with a new Eee PC logo and the addition of alloy trimming to the Eee 901 PC’s keyboard, hinge and touchpad are somewhat less than exciting cosmetic changes that will hardly serve to petrify its competitors.

However, the addition of a Bluetooth module will, we suspect, be warmly welcomed as well as the addition of more bundled software applications for the Linux version though, at the time of writing, it’s unknown exactly what these additional application are.

We await a full spec sheet concerning the new Eee PC 901 with somewhat tempered baited breath but quite whether the 901 will sock it to the growing competition in the mini-notebook market is open to speculation (based on what is known at the time of writing about the Eee PC 901 we suggest not).
Personally, we still favour HP’s Mini-Note, but each to their own.
Asus have purportedly penciled in a release date of 3rd June for their Eee PC 901 which will apparently retail at around NT$20,000 (US$650) .
