Aliph Updated Jawbone Bluetooth Headset

Aliph have announced that their highly popular, award winning ‘designer’ Jawbone Bluetooth Headset (see link for video) has been updated resulting in the device being around half the size of the original Jawbone, though the changes are far from just aesthetic.

Featuring improved NoiseAssassin noise cancelling technology – as originally developed by Aliph for DARPA (The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) – the updated Jawbone also comes with patented Voice Activity Sensor (VAS) serving to distinguish your voice from ambient noise wich is consequently removed prior to transmission courtesy of what Aliph merely refer to as ‘proprietary Digital Signal Processing (DSP) algorithms’.

From an aesthetic perspective, the new updated Jawbone sports a differing, less harsh embossed diamond texture (doing away with the metal mesh finish of the original Jawbone) whilst the ear grip has also been revised and comes with a stitched, padded cover enhancing comfort when worn. For us at least, the new styling seems to have taken on a somewhat ‘S&M’ inspired look though we accept that perhaps that’s just the mood we’re in today (not that we think the new ‘kinky’ look is a bad thing – far from it).

Perhaps it’s just us, but…(no, let’s not go there).

Battery life of the updated Jawbone, however, is slightly diminished from that of the original model in offering up to 4 hours of talktime and 8 hours standby time based on a full charge. That said, this revised Jawbone is capable of replenishing up to 80% of its charge based on a mere 35 minutes of charging.

Billed as being ‘earwear’ rather than a ‘headset’, Hosain Rahman, CEO and co-founder of Aliph, announced the new updated Jawbone stating that ‘In creating the new Jawbone we focused on improving our audio performance beyond the marketing leading noise solution that we already had, and elevating the design to a point where it would appeal to a broad range of consumers who would love to wear it…Jawbone provides amazing audio quality in a form factor that is a true lifestyle accessory – it’s a new and complete departure from the typical gadgetry of the Bluetooth category.’
