Microsoft have announced their new LifeCam VX-500 and LifeCam VX-5000 webcams which, according to their press release, will change our perception of webcams as being ‘boring and bulky’ to that of being ‘fun and flexible’ and which feature a ‘unique bendable attachment base’ though, with descriptions such as this, one could almost be forgiven for concluding that MS were launching a series of sex aids.
Available in Fire Red (steady on there, MS), Lucky Green and Cool Blue s well as a special ‘feel real’ latex coated version with studs (no, ok, we made that bit up), Microsoft’s new LifeCam VX-5000 webcam features ‘world class’ VGA optics offering 640 x 480 video resolution with 1.3MP resolution stills capture capability, x3 digital zoom, built-in microphone with acoustic noise cancellation and pan and tilt adjustability courtesy of the aforementioned ‘unique bendable attachment base’ (no sniggering at the back, please – we’re talking about a webcam here, ok).
The LifeCam VX-500, interestingly, gets relatively little mention in comparison, with MS’s press release merely stating that it’s a ‘versatile webcam designed to fit on notebooks and desktop PCs’ whilst, to make up the trio of new ‘Life’ products, Microsoft’s LifeChat LX-2000 headset is concisely detailed as being of collapsible design allowing for ease of portability.
Microsoft’s LifeCam VX-5000 will retail for around $49.95 when released in June whilst the LifeCam VX-500 and the LifeChat LX-2000, both of which are due to become available imminently, will retail for around $17 and $30 respectively.
