defibrillator with Dell XPS

Only yesterday we posted concerning a report in the WSJ that claimed that Dell’s XPS performance gaming range of PCs were to be discontinued but, in a statement released today, a Dell spokeswoman has acted to reassure those with XPS gaming rigs that Dell not only has absolutely no intention of axing the range but will also ‘continue to refresh them to keep them on the front edge of gaming’.

According to Dell spokeswoman Anne Camden, whilst Dell will not be axing its XPS gaming rigs, Dell will, however, ‘invest like crazy in product development, design and engineering to propel Alienware as the premier gaming brand in the future’ which would intimate, to us at least, that Alienware will indeed become the main focus as far as future performance gaming rigs are concerned (which was what the WSJ also suggested).

Interestingly, this would suggest that whilst both Dell and Alienware branded gaming rigs will continue to directly complete head to head for consumers attention though, what with Dell now being on record as intending to push Alienware as the ‘premier gaming brand’ one can only speculate just how long it will be before Dell find that producing their own label gaming PCs proves no longer viable (or, for that matter, makes particularly sound business sense).

Time will tell, though, for the time being at least, XPS gaming rigs appear to have been granted what we suggest will only prove, in the fullness of time, a mere stay of execution.
