HP Media Smart HDTV

Hewlett-Packard have confirmed that their soon to be released MediaSmart Connect Digital Media Receiver and Media Smart HDTV will support full screen playback of YouTube video content as well as multiple playlist creation and full remote support allowing users to watch YouTube content from the comfort of their armchairs.

According to HP’s press release, HP worked directly with YouTube to develop the facility to view full screen YouTube video content courtesy of their up and coming MediaSmart Connect Digital Media Receiver and Media Smart HDTV units with Carlos Montalvo, vice president of marketing and services, Connected Entertainment Business at HP stating ‘With the addition of YouTube to the HP MediaSmart platform, consumers will have even more ways to enjoy the latest entertainment on the Internet…Bringing YouTube to HP MediaSmart products will let users browse and select a series of videos, then relax and enjoy the show on their big screens.’

In practice, of course, regardless of the fact that YouTube content has seen somewhat of a hike in quality of late, the quality of content viewed via a HDTV unit is going to be far from exceptional, but the facility to view content from YouTube in the comfort of our front rooms – though by no means something not already offered courtesy of numerous media centers and media streamers – is undoubtedly a welcome addition, especially in light of the fact that television programming (certainly in the UK) has long since resorted to mimicking base level YouTube content all too frequently.
