Equinux, whose TubeStick USB based TV tuner has, until now, been available as a DVB-T device reserved for the European market, have announced the immediate availability of their new TubeStick Hybrid Dual TV Tuner aimed specifically at Mac users based in the US.
Combining dual TV tuners – one for digital TV reception capable of decoding both SDTV and HDTV ATSC and unencrypted cable ClearQAM signals and one for receiving analogue broadcasts – Equinux’s TubeStick Hybrid also offers extended analogue video capture capabilities allowing users to hook up and record directly AV devices with S-VHS and/or Composite video outputs, such as video cameras and games consoles.

Other capabilities worth mentioning are the free ‘The Tube’ application bundled with the TubeStick Hybrid allowing for timeshifting and the pausing live TV, as well as offering access to public chat rooms where users can discuss the television programs they are viewing live with others, and ‘TubeToGo’ which facilitates the uploading of recorded content which can subsequently be accessed whilst out and about via the internet by connected devices such as iPhones (or any device sporting a Safari web browser).

Also of note is the fact that, whilst the TubeStick Hybrid is aimed squarely at Mac users, the device also comes with Windows O/S drivers facilitating compatibility with the likes of Windows Media Center.
The Equinux TubeStick Hybrid Dual TV Tuner has just been made available via Equinux’s online store, priced at $129, and is also due to become available from Apple stores in the short term – though no exact time frame has been provided.
