NextComputing have today announced their new Vigor Evo HD ultra rugged PC, a ruggedized version of the company’s previously available EVO HD, which, according to NextComputing, is not only the world’s first rugged portable to offer up to eight (yes eight) integrated AMD or Intel CPUs but also offers the highest number of PCIe or PCI-X 64-bit slots all mounted in a floating chassis providing shock protection.

Vigor Evo HD Ultra Rugged Portable PC, which is roughly the same size as a standard briefcase, is aimed squarely at those looking for a dependable computing solution in harsh environmental working conditions such as ships and civil/military field operations and supports either Dual-Core or Quad-Core AMD Opteron processors or dual-core and quad-core Intel Xeon processors and sports hot-swappable 2.5” SATA HHD up to 250MB (depending on configuration) with up to 3TB of additional capacity available, DVD drive, 17” WUXGA+ 1920 x 1200 resolution LCD, 4x USB ports, up to 2/3 Gigabit Ethernet ports and S/PDIF digital output.

‘With the Vigor Evo, we have combined our experience in the deployable ruggedized market with the innovative architecture of the first line of flextop portable computers.’ Bob Labadini, President and CTO of NextComputing, says, ‘The Vigor Evo brings to the market a number of firsts. For example, it is the first rugged portable to incorporate up to 8 processing cores from Intel or AMD, it incorporates the highest number of PCIe or PCI-X 64-bit slots, up to four, and the entire system is encased in a unsurpassed floating chassis which provides maximum shock and vibration absorption with no metal to metal contact.’

NextComputing’s Vigor Evo HD Ultra Rugged Portable PC is available already and, thinks to the sheer array of options available, is priced according to order.
