Buffalo Supplement LinkStation NAS Range with New 1TB LinkStation Mini NAS

Buffalo have unveiled the latest model in their LinkStation range of NAS storage devices in the form of the LinkStation Mini which, apart from offering a compact, highly portable form factor sports dual 5400rpm 2.5” hard drives offering a cool 1TB of total storage capacity.

Apart from its formidable capacity, Buffalo’s new LinkStation Mini also comes with an extra, rear mounted USB port allowing for connectivity with additional storage devices (or, for example, a printer) as well as an Ethernet port and RAID 0 / RAID1 configuration options though it should be stressed that, unlike standard external hard drives, the unit, in being a NAS device, is limited to network usage and so cannot be directly plugged into a PC (except with use of a patch cable).

Buffalo’s 1TB LinkStation Mini NAS, which is expected to become available in early May, will retail for around $700 although those looking for a cheaper device at the expense of overall capacity should note that Buffalo are also purportedly working on a 500MB version of the LinkStation Mini – details of which, concerning pricing and availability, are as yet unforthcoming.
